UNUSED BASEMENT GETS CONVERTED TO A COOL STUDENT RENTAL
This dingy basement was unlivable. It looked like another had been updated since the 70's. Now it is a beautiful 4 bedroom, 1.5 bath unit. The finishing selections appeal to a young, hip population.
We separated the toilet and shower area from the vanity so they could be used at the same time. We also added some niches in the shower area for extra shelf storage since 4 people will share this shower. The tile mimics the tile used on the floor.
You can see above that the space suffered from a lack of natural light. Two windows were created and the duct work moved away from the enlarged window so it can let in more natural light.
This room was torn down so that the kitchen can stay open to the living space to give the allusion of a larger space.
The space under stairs is usually lost in a reno but I decided to convert it to a powered room with double doors so it functions for both the occupant in the bedroom and people in the common space.
Here are two of four of the good sized bedrooms created.
